Cliveden House Wedding Photographer: Christmas Proposal
How is this for a happy story that you just don’t hear every day!
Steve and I decided to get out of the house a few days before Christmas and go for a walk with Cameron; he was a tiny 3 weeks old. We decided to head to one of our favourite locations; Cliveden House in Taplow.
It was a quiet Saturday afternoon as everyone did their Christmas shopping, but we enjoyed the crisp day and blue skies. We got to the bottom of the maze and soaked in the space – it was just us and one other couple a few metres away.
We were about to take a family photograph; camera in hand when I jokingly said to Steve, “I wonder if that guy over there is going to propose!” to my utter shock and amazement, that is exactly what happened!! We were in exactly the right place at exactly the right time, a few seconds either way and we would have missed each other for sure.
“Photography Steph” kicked in and photographed the whole proposal. I only had my 35mm lens (wide-angle for non tech people!), but it still is part of that moment and really tells their story.
We gave them space to soak in what had just happened and we walked over towards them.
Paul had his phone in his hand and believe he was going to ask for us to take a photo of them, the first thing we said was huge congratulations and you would never believe it, but we are actually wedding photographers and captured the whole proposal on camera! Charlotte thought we were “in on it” but genuinely couldn’t believe the timing!
We laughed, chatted and offered a mini engagement session of the two of them together – the close up is one of my favourites and has an air of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement photograph from 2017, which is funny as this is the venue where the Duchess of Sussex stayed the night before her wedding!
We wished the couple all the best, exchanged details and laughed at how random our encounter was for the rest of the day.
Huge congratulations to Charlotte and Paul – we wish you a lifetime of happiness ahead <3
