Steve and I knew that we wanted to hold the first retreat in the picturesque village of Beer.  Beer is close to Seaton; the nearest town and about an hours drive from Exeter in Devon.  The weekend went without a hitch; apart from the typical English seaside weather!  We enjoyed beautiful sunshine one moment and 10 seconds later it was torrential rain!

The rain didn’t win though as we still managed to get outside with plenty of camera time to practice our new skills that we learned in the morning during our theory time.

We knew we wanted a welcoming environment for our training centre and we found that in the form of the Orangery at Westleigh Bed & Breakfast.  This is a fantastic place to stay if you are a dog lover as it is a dog-friendly premises and perfect for bring the puppy pooch with us as a furry model!

The Orangery is a beautiful room filled with natural light and plenty of tea and coffee in the galley kitchen for us to use throughout the day; Etta our host and her parents really are fantastic hosts and we could not have asked for better hospitality for ourselves and our delegates.

The syllabus for the retreat was a simple one – what are the best techniques to achieve wonderful holiday pictures every single time. We focused on the technical abilities first with looking at photography settings such as white balance, aperture and shutter speeds. With this technical knowledge we were then able to apply it to the five main workshops that we had running throughout the two days. Every workshop ended with a review of the photographs and printed their favorite photos ready to be stuck in to their retreat books.

We finished the retreat by asking our lovely delegates to fill out feedback forms and asking their thoughts from the weekend; just check out these results!

 – 100% thought it was an excellent weekend
– 100% thought material was informative

 – 100% thought the food was of an excellent quality and plenty to eat

For us, the most important feedback was that 100% enjoyed their experience and would recommend to friends.

Steve and I could not ask for better feedback, for better clients, or for a better weekend. We are thrilled with the progress that all delegates made and so look forward to our next session.
