Everything You Need to Know for Planning your Wedding Group Photographs

Group photographs at weddings get a lot of stick.  They are called too traditional, they take too long, it’s what your parents / grandparents did, too stressful.  It doesn’t have to be any of those things!

During your drinks reception (after the ceremony) you have your mingling time.  This is our opportunity to photograph these groups of people as a memorable moment from your day.

It is completely your choice whether you have them all, or just a few, but we really recommend having a couple as they are a beautiful record of your day.

The logistics.  Each group takes on average 7 minutes to bring people together, shuffle them around to make it look even and a great image, take the shot and move them on to the next group.  That is why we recommend no more than 8 groups which is just over an hour.

In your planning meeting with your photographer, you will have the opportunity to discuss those favourite locations from the venue and take your photographers point of view for composition and light too.

We always recommend starting with the everyone shot first. That way, your guests can go to the bar and start mingling. Then we move onto the family shots and any variation of those that you want. Lastly we move onto everyone in matching outfits for the bridal party shots. Those 3 key groups are so important and we can do any variation of them that you would like.
